Sample sizes are typically 10-30 participants, many lack proper blinding or sham controls, and publication venues are often low-impact or alternative medicine journals. The proposed mechanism—that Earth's electrons directly neutralize free radicals through the skin—lacks rigorous biophysical validation. The few positive findings (reduced blood viscosity, improved wound healing in case reports) have not been replicated by independent groups. Confounders are inadequately controlled: spending time outdoors barefoot in nature involves relaxation, sun exposure, and mindfulness—all of which independently affect stress and inflammation markers.
