Silicon Valley biohackers and Reddit communities build elaborate supplement stacks promising superhuman focus and memory. The reality is far less dramatic. A handful of compounds have legitimate evidence for modest cognitive benefits. Most popular nootropics are riding on animal studies, tiny sample sizes, or pure marketing.

Tier 1: Strong Evidence

Caffeine

Creatine isn’t just for muscles. Your brain uses phosphocreatine for energy, and supplementation may enhance cognitive performance — but primarily in populations with depleted brain creatine: vegetarians, sleep-deprived individuals, and older adults.
